गणेश चतुर्थी — Ganesh Chaturthi in Marathi for Kids
फार फार पूर्वी, देवी पार्वती यांनी मातीपासून एक सुंदर मुलगा बनवला. त्याचे नाव गणेश असे ठेवले. त्या त्याला खूप प्रेम करत होत्या.
एके दिवशी भगवान शंकर आले. दारावर गणेश उभा होता. त्याने शंकरांना आत येण्यापासून थांबवले. शंकरांना राग आला आणि त्यांनी गणेशाचे मस्तक कापले.
पार्वती माता फार दुःखी झाल्या. शंकरांनी एका हत्तीचे मस्तक आणून गणेशाला जिवंत केले. तेव्हापासून गणेश हत्तीच्या मस्तकाचे दिसतात.
सर्व देवांनी गणेशाला आशीर्वाद दिला — “तू प्रथम पूजनीय असशील! कोणतेही शुभकार्य सुरू करण्यापूर्वी तुझी पूजा होईल.” म्हणून आपण कोणत्याही सणाआधी, परीक्षेआधी, नवीन कार्याआधी गणेशाची पूजा करतो.
भाद्रपद शुद्ध चतुर्थी या दिवशी गणेशाचा जन्म झाला — म्हणून हा दिवस गणेश चतुर्थी म्हणून साजरा करतो!
The story behind the festival: Long ago, Goddess Parvati created a boy from clay and named him Ganesh. One day Lord Shiva came home. Ganesh, guarding the door, stopped him from entering. Shiva got angry and cut off Ganesh’s head.
Parvati was heartbroken. Shiva brought an elephant’s head and restored Ganesh to life — which is why Ganesh has an elephant head.
All the gods blessed Ganesh: “You will be worshipped first! Before any auspicious task, you will be honoured.” That is why we worship Ganesh before exams, new ventures and every festival.
Ganesh was born on the fourth day (Chaturthi) of the Marathi month Bhadrapada — so this day is celebrated as Ganesh Chaturthi!
एक होतं छोटं गाव. त्या गावात आर्या नावाची एक गोड मुलगी राहात होती. आर्याला गणपतीवर खूप प्रेम होतं.
एक वर्षी गणेश चतुर्थीच्या आधी आर्याने आईला सांगितले — “आई, मला यंदा स्वतः मोदक बनवायचे आहेत.”
आईने हसून म्हटले — “बरं. पण मोदक बनवणं सोपं नाही. मेहनत लागते.” आर्याने ठरवलं — “मी करेन!”
दुसऱ्या दिवशी सकाळी आर्या लवकर उठली. आईने तांदळाचं पीठ, गूळ आणि नारळ काढले. आर्याने हळूहळू सारण बनवलं. हात चिकट झाले. पण ती थांबली नाही.
पहिला मोदक बनवला — वाकडातिकडा निघाला! आर्या हसली. “परत करते!” दुसरा… तिसरा… दहावा मोदक एकदम सुंदर निघाला!
संध्याकाळी गणपतीसमोर मोदक ठेवताना आर्याचे डोळे चमकले. बाबांनी म्हटलं — “गणपती बाप्पांना सगळ्यात आधी तुझे मोदक आवडतील, कारण त्यात तुझी मेहनत आणि प्रेम आहे.”
आरती झाली. “गणपती बाप्पा मोरया!” सगळ्यांनी एकत्र म्हटलं. आर्याने मनात एक इच्छा केली — “बाप्पा, मला नेहमी शिकण्याची इच्छा दे आणि चांगलं काम करायची शक्ती दे.”
त्या रात्री आर्या शांतपणे झोपली — मनात गणपती बाप्पांचं गोड स्मित घेऊन. 🐘
Once upon a time in a small village lived a sweet girl named Arya. She loved Ganpati very much.
One year, before Ganesh Chaturthi, Arya told her mother — “I want to make modak by myself this year.”
Mother smiled — “Alright. But making modak is not easy. It needs hard work.” Arya decided — “I will do it!”
The next morning Arya woke up early. She made the filling slowly — her hands got sticky, but she didn’t stop. The first modak came out crooked! She laughed. “I’ll try again!” The tenth modak came out beautiful.
In the evening, as she placed the modak before Ganpati, Father said — “Bappa will love your modak the most, because they have your hard work and love in them.”
Aarti was done. “Ganpati Bappa Morya!” everyone said together. Arya made a silent wish — “Bappa, always give me the desire to learn and the strength to do good work.”
That night Arya slept peacefully — carrying Bappa’s sweet smile in her heart. 🐘

आई सकाळी लवकर उठते. ती मोदक बनवते. मोदक गणपतीला खूप आवडतात.
बाबा घरात सुंदर सजावट करतात. भाऊ अंगणात रांगोळी काढतो.
संध्याकाळी आम्ही सगळे आरती करतो. “गणपती बाप्पा मोरया!” असे म्हणतो.
दहा दिवसांनंतर गणपतीचे विसर्जन होते. “पुढच्या वर्षी लवकर या!” असे सांगतो.
Today is Ganesh Chaturthi! Ganpati is coming to our home.
Mother wakes up early. She makes modak (sweet dumplings). Ganpati loves modak very much.
Father decorates the house beautifully. Brother draws rangoli in the courtyard.
In the evening we all do aarti. We say “Ganpati Bappa Morya!”
After ten days, Ganpati’s visarjan (immersion) happens. We say “Come back early next year!”
