बैल पोळा हा शेतकऱ्यांचा सण आहे — कृतज्ञतेचा, प्रेमाचा आणि आदराचा सण.
एक पुराणकथा सांगते की श्रावण अमावास्येला भगवान शंकरांचे वाहन नंदी (बैल) यांचा सन्मान होतो. नंदी हा शिवाचा विश्वासू सेवक आणि शेतकऱ्यांचा मित्र.
आणखी एक कथा — या दिवशी शेतकऱ्याने बैलाला विश्रांती द्यावी असे सांगितले आहे. पावसाळ्यात बैल खूप काम करतो — पेरणीच्या वेळी सतत नांगर ओढतो. श्रावण अमावास्येला पेरणी संपलेली असते — मग एक दिवस बैलाला आराम आणि सत्कार!
महाराष्ट्रात, विशेषतः विदर्भात, हा सण खूप मोठ्या उत्साहाने साजरा होतो. मुले मातीचे बैल बनवतात आणि घरी पूजतात — जे शहरात राहतात त्यांच्यासाठी!
बैल पोळा सांगतो — जे आपल्यासाठी झटतात त्यांचे आभार मानावेत. बैल असो, शेतकरी असो किंवा आपली आई — मेहनत करणाऱ्यांचा सन्मान करणे हेच माणुसकी!

One legend connects this day to Nandi — Lord Shiva’s bull companion — being honoured on Shravan Amavasya.
Practically, by Shravan Amavasya the monsoon sowing season is complete — the bull has ploughed tirelessly. So farmers give the bull a day of complete rest, decoration and celebration — the bull’s one holiday in the year!
In Vidarbha and across Maharashtra this festival is celebrated with great joy. Urban children make clay bulls (mati ke bail) and worship them at home — bringing the spirit of the festival to the city.
Bail Pola’s message: always thank those who work hard for you — whether it is the bull, the farmer, or your own parents!
बैल पोळ्याच्या दिवशी शहरात राहणारा विहान आजोबांच्या गावी गेला होता. त्याने कधीच बैल जवळून पाहिला नव्हता.
आजोबांनी त्याला शेतात नेले. एक मोठा धिप्पाड बैल उभा होता. विहान घाबरला — “आजोबा, हा इतका मोठा आहे!”
आजोबा हसले. “हा आपला नंदू आहे. बघ, आज आम्ही त्याला सजवणार.”
आजोबांनी नंदूला आंघोळ घातली. त्याच्या शिंगांना रंग लावला. गळ्यात घुंगरू बांधले. विहानने स्वतः फुलांचा हार घातला.
“आजोबा, बैलाला फुले का?” विहानने विचारले.
“विहान, नंदू वर्षभर आपल्या शेतात राबतो. पावसात, उन्हात — कधीच थांबत नाही. आज त्याचा सत्कार करतो — ‘तू खूप मेहनत केलीस, आभारी आहोत!’”
विहानने नंदूच्या डोळ्यांकडे बघितले. ते शांत, मोठे डोळे होते. त्याला वाटले — नंदूला आज खूप आनंद झाला असेल.
घरी आल्यावर विहानने आईला मिठी मारली. “आई, तू पण रोज खूप काम करतेस — आज तुझाही सत्कार!” आई डोळे भरून हसली. 🐂🌸💚
On Bail Pola day, city-boy Vihan went to his grandfather’s village. He had never seen a bull up close. Grandfather took him to the field — a large, powerful bull stood there. Vihan was frightened — “Grandfather, he’s so big!”
“This is our Nandu. Today we decorate him!” Grandfather bathed Nandu, painted his horns with colours, tied bells around his neck. Vihan himself put a garland of flowers on Nandu.
“Why flowers for a bull?” Vihan asked. “Nandu works all year in our fields — rain or shine. Today we honour him — ‘You worked so hard, thank you!’”
Vihan looked into Nandu’s calm, big eyes. He felt — Nandu must be very happy today.
Back home, Vihan hugged his mother. “Mother, you also work so hard every day — today your honour too!” Mother smiled with tears in her eyes. 🐂🌸💚
“नंदूला का सजवले?” — Why was Nandu decorated?
“विहानने घरी आल्यावर काय केले?” — What did Vihan do when he came home?
“तुम्ही कुणाचा सत्कार कराल?” — Whose hard work will you honour today?
आज बैल पोळा आहे! शेतकऱ्यांचा सण.
बाबा बैलाला आंघोळ घालतात. आई पुरणपोळी बनवते.
भाऊ फुलांचा हार घालतो. बहीण हळद-कुंकू लावते.
बैल आज सजलेला आहे. त्याला आज काम नाही!
“बैलोबा, तुझे आभार!” — आम्ही सगळे म्हणतो. 🐂🌸
