त्रिपुरी पौर्णिमा — Tripuri Purnima in Marathi for Kids
Dev Diwali = Diwali of the Gods! We celebrate Diwali on Kartik Amavasya (new moon), but the gods celebrate on Kartik Purnima (full moon). Imagine thousands of lamps glowing in the light of a full moon!
फार फार पूर्वी त्रिपुरासुर नावाचा राक्षस होता. त्याने तीन नगरे बनवली होती — सोन्याचे, रुप्याचे आणि लोखंडाचे. या तीन नगरांना मिळून त्रिपुर म्हणत. राक्षस त्यात राहून देवांना त्रास देत असे.
देव खूप काळजीत पडले. ते भगवान शंकरांकडे गेले. “शंकरा, त्रिपुरासुराला संपव!”
शंकर तयार झाले. त्यांनी ब्रह्मांडाचाच रथ बनवला — सूर्य आणि चंद्र चाके, मेरू पर्वत धनुष्य, शेषनाग दोरी आणि स्वतः विष्णू बाण होते!
कार्तिक पौर्णिमेला तिन्ही नगरे एकाच रेषेत आली. शंकरांनी एकच बाण सोडला — तिन्ही नगरे जळून खाक झाली! त्रिपुरासुराचा अंत झाला!
देव आनंदले. त्यांनी हजारो दिवे लावले — ती रात्र उजळून निघाली! तेव्हापासून ही रात्र देव दिवाळी म्हणून साजरी होते!
The story: The demon Tripurasur built three cities — of gold, silver and iron — collectively called Tripura. From there he tormented the gods.
The gods went to Lord Shiva for help. Shiva agreed and built a cosmic chariot — the sun and moon as wheels, Mount Meru as the bow, Shesha Nag as the bowstring and Vishnu himself as the arrow!
On Kartik Purnima, all three cities aligned in a single line. Shiva released one arrow — all three cities were destroyed! Tripurasur was defeated!
The gods celebrated with thousands of lamps — the night blazed with light! Since then this night is celebrated as Dev Diwali — Diwali of the Gods!
त्रिपुरी पौर्णिमेची रात्र होती. तारा आजोबांबरोबर अंगणात बसली होती. आकाशात पूर्ण चंद्र होता. घरोघरी दिवे लावले होते.
“आजोबा, देव पण दिवाळी साजरी करतात?” तारांनी विचारले.
“हो!” आजोबा म्हणाले. “आपण अमावास्येला — अंधाऱ्या रात्री — दिवाळी साजरी करतो. देव पौर्णिमेला — चंद्राच्या उजेडात — साजरी करतात. दोन दिवाळ्या!”
“पण देवांना अंधार नाही तरी दिवे का लावायचे?” ताराने विचारले.
आजोबांनी आकाशाकडे बघितले. “ताराबाई, आनंद असला की दिवे लावायचे असतात. आनंद व्यक्त करायला दिवे लागतात — अंधार असो वा नसो.”
ताराने एक छोटी पणती पेटवली. चंद्राच्या प्रकाशात ती पणती फारच लहान दिसत होती. पण तारा म्हणाली — “आजोबा, चंद्र असला तरी माझी पणती वेगळीच उजळते!”
आजोबांना खूप आनंद झाला. “अगदी बरोबर! प्रत्येक दिवा — मग तो मोठा असो वा लहान — स्वतःचाच प्रकाश देतो. तू पण असाच एक छोटा पण खास दिवा आहेस!” 🌕🪔✨
It was Tripuri Purnima night. Tara sat in the courtyard with grandfather. A full moon shone in the sky. Lamps glowed in every house.
“Grandfather, do the gods also celebrate Diwali?” Tara asked.
“Yes! We celebrate on Amavasya — the dark night. The gods celebrate on Purnima — in the moonlight. Two Diwalis!”
“But if there’s no darkness, why do the gods need lamps?” Tara asked.
“Tara, when there is joy — you light lamps. Lamps express happiness — whether it’s dark or not.”
Tara lit a small clay lamp. In the moonlight it looked very small. But she said — “Grandfather, even with the moon shining, my lamp gives its own special light!”
Grandfather was delighted. “Exactly right! Every lamp — big or small — gives its own light. You too are a small but very special lamp!” 🌕🪔✨
“आपण कधी दिवाळी साजरी करतो? देव कधी?” — When do we celebrate Diwali? When do the gods?
“ताराने काय म्हटले?” — What did Tara say about her small lamp?
“तू कोणता दिवा आहेस?” — What kind of lamp are you?
आज त्रिपुरी पौर्णिमा आहे! पूर्ण चंद्र आकाशात चमकतो.
आम्ही घरात दिवे लावतो. नदीत दिवे सोडतो.
आई आकाश दिवा लावते. बाबा तुळशीची पूजा करतात.
आजोबा त्रिपुरासुराची गोष्ट सांगतात. आम्ही लक्षपूर्वक ऐकतो.
“देव दिवाळी झिंदाबाद!” — आम्ही सगळे म्हणतो. 🌕🪔
Today is Tripuri Purnima! The full moon shines in the sky.
