दिवाळी पाडवा हा पती-पत्नीच्या प्रेमाचा आणि परस्पर आदराचा सण आहे. दिवाळीच्या चौथ्या दिवशी हा सण येतो.
पुराणकथेनुसार, श्रीकृष्ण यांनी नरकासुराचा वध केल्यानंतर सत्यभामेसह द्वारकेत परतले. सत्यभामाने त्यांचे जल्लोषात स्वागत केले. त्या आनंदाचे प्रतीक म्हणजे दिवाळी पाडवा!
आणखी एक कथा — बळी राजाने आपले सर्व दान केले. त्याच्या त्यागाच्या स्मरणार्थ हा दिवस बलिप्रतिपदा म्हणूनही ओळखतात.
या दिवशी पत्नी पतीला ओवाळते — प्रेम आणि काळजी व्यक्त करते. पती पत्नीला भेट देतो — कृतज्ञता व्यक्त करतो. दोघे मिळून नवीन वर्षाची सुरुवात करतात.
महाराष्ट्रात या दिवशी व्यापारी नवीन वर्षाची सुरुवात करतात — नवीन वह्या उघडतात. म्हणून याला पाडवा म्हणतात — नवीन सुरुवात!
Why we celebrate: Diwali Padwa is the festival of husband and wife — celebrating their love, care and mutual respect. It falls on the fourth day of Diwali.
According to mythology, Lord Krishna returned to Dwarka with Satyabhama after killing the demon Narakasur. Satyabhama celebrated his return joyfully — Diwali Padwa symbolises that joy!
This day is also called Bali Pratipada — honouring the memory of King Bali who gave away everything he had — the spirit of generosity.
On this day the wife does aarti for her husband (ovalaNe) expressing love and care. The husband gives his wife a gift expressing gratitude. Together they begin the new year.
In Maharashtra, traders and business people open new account books on this day — beginning the new financial year. Hence the name Padwa — new beginning!
दिवाळी पाडव्याच्या सकाळी मेघा खूप लवकर उठली. तिला आईची खूप मदत करायची होती.
आईने सांगितले — “आज बाबांना ओवाळायचे आहे. तू मला मदत करशील का?”
मेघाने आनंदाने हात उंचावला. “हो! मी पण बाबांना ओवाळते!”
सकाळी आई आणि मेघाने मिळून ताट सजवले. त्यात दिवा, कुंकू, अक्षता, गोड. मेघाने स्वतः फुले ठेवली.
बाबा आले. आईने प्रथम ओवाळले. मग मेघाने छोटा दिवा घेऊन बाबांना ओवाळले. बाबांचे डोळे भरले.
“मेघा, तू आज इतकी मोठी झालीस!” बाबा म्हणाले. त्यांनी मेघाला उचलून मिठी मारली.
मेघाने विचारले — “बाबा, पाडव्याला ओवाळतात का?” बाबांनी हसत सांगितले — “हो! कारण आपण ज्यांच्यावर प्रेम करतो त्यांना सांगायला हवे — प्रेम मनात ठेवू नये, दाखवावे!” 🪔💛
On Diwali Padwa morning, Megha woke up very early. She wanted to help mother.
Mother said — “Today we do aarti for father. Will you help me?” Megha raised her hand joyfully — “Yes! I’ll also do aarti for Father!”
Together they decorated the puja plate — lamp, kumkum, rice, sweets. Megha placed the flowers herself.
Father came. Mother did aarti first. Then Megha took the small lamp and did aarti for Father. Father’s eyes filled with tears.
“Megha, you’ve grown up so much today!” he said and hugged her tightly.
Megha asked — “Father, why do we do aarti on Padwa?” Father smiled — “Because we must tell those we love — love shouldn’t stay inside the heart, it must be shown!” 🪔💛
