ञ is a real Marathi letter but like ङ, it never starts a word in modern Marathi. Its sound appears hidden inside words containing ज or ज्ञ. Once your child knows ज, they already know most of the ञ sound!

Say the English word “canyon” — the “ny” sound in the middle is close to ञ!
