ङ and ञ are cousins: ङ hums at the back of the mouth before क-वर्ग; ञ hums in the middle before च-वर्ग. Same idea, different place.

No Marathi word begins with ञ. Just like ङ, this letter never starts a word — it lives only inside them, always just before च, छ, ज or झ.
Sanskrit wrote it in full — पञ्च, चञ्चल — but modern Marathi uses the अनुस्वार (ं) for the same sound: पंच, चंचल.
So what should my child learn? Recognise the letter, know its sound, and understand that the dot ं before च-वर्ग is this sound. That is the whole job of this page.
